H.R. Giger is the leading surrealist of our time. His remarkable art books, such as the iconic Necronomicon, have sold over a million copies, and his biomechanical style of art and design has captivated legions of fans and admirers worldwide. Giger received the Oscar for his otherworldly designs for the film, ALIEN.
The Passagen Watch is inspired by H.R. Giger's remarkable series of works in his Passagen (Passages) series of paintings, based on the workings of industrial machinery. The Passagen Watch works reflect his passion for industrial design, and a fascination with traveling through tunnels and passages, often in a dreamlike or nightmarish state. It was our intention to capture some of the spirit of this contemporary master's amazing art and vision, as we worked with him on this unique project..
The Passagen watch is a fully custom made timepiece and took over three years to develop. The 42.6mm watch case in 316L stainless steel was made via a complex combination of molding, milling, pressure stamping and handmade work. Each of the twelve bolts on the case top were tapped in by hand, and the case is coated in black using state of the art PVD technology for lasting durability, or plated to 5 microns in 18k gold. The crystal is synthetic sapphire, precision cut into a unique keyhole shape. The 25 jewel watch movement is the reliable, sweep hand Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic. This watch is powered by the movement of the wearer's wrist. The Passagen is the first watch in our ATELIER MORPHEUS series of limited edition, Swiss made timepieces. Our new Swiss ISA quartz version features a black IP case, sapphire crystal, and black leather strap.
t The watch, which is available either in a black PVD or 18-carat gold-plated case looks like a scale 3D model of a fragment of his Opus Magnum.--World Watch Review It’s a labor of love, and the attention to detail on a singular vision is one of the things I like most about Morpheus.
